The seasonal changes in daylight hours in northern-latitude countries are considered an important trigger of seasonal-affective disorder (SAD). Twelve percent of the population are severely affected while most of the people are highly susceptible to a less severe version of SAD, and notice that they become irritable, lethargic, and fatigued as winter hits.
This project is about creating an event in response to this seasonal emotional vulnerability. Two inflatables will transform based on a schedule in phase with human physiological and psychological shifts in relation to seasonal change and moon phases. Waking up every fall, they remind us that our mental condition is tied to environmental and physiological cues that are not necessarily evident to us.
The inflating and deflating process is realized through maya simulation, and the happening at Emerald Necklace would converge people together to lying under the reflection of the orange interior as an alternative device providing warmth and togetherness.
